Kanj Nicholas creates uplifting work including paintings, ceramic pieces and felt, having gained a BA in Textile Design from RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. Growing up as a child in Sri Lanka left her with a lifelong passion for bold, positive colours which are woven through her art and bind it together. She finds inspiration in nature’s shapes, textures and vibrant colours, in both floral and plant forms, and is a proud plot holder at a local allotment. Kanj uses a spontaneous and free approach to create her felt work, which was recently exhibited in her exhibition ‘Joy in the Everyday’ at Bantock House and mirrored her love of nature. She is currently developing workshops for adults and children in felting, pottery and ceramic painting and also in cookery, where she hopes to draw on her rich Sri-Lankan heritage.
“Like the Sunflower, be a seeker of light, no matter how dark or weak it may seem.” – Kanj Nicholas.
