We are delighted to announce that we will soon be welcoming renowned garden historian Twigs Way to Wolverhampton as part of our October Event, ‘Sense of Place’, which is set to take place on the weekend of the 14th – 15th October 2017.
Twigs will be presenting a fascinating and entertaining talk at Newhampton Arts Centre on Sunday 15th October 2017 as part of the events taking place over the weekend. The talk is set to delve deep into the political and social context of allotments in general from the 18th century to the present day and also closer examine the way in which our very own Boundary Way Allotments and Community Garden in Warstones reflects both wider and local trends. It is a culmination of Twigs’ in-depth research and knowledge and months of close work from the Boundary Way Project Team with Twigs to research the origins of our site. A huge part of the research has been the many interviews with plotholders, ex-plotholders and team members that filmmaker and photographer Geoff Broadway has conducted over the recent months. All of which, as well as feeding into this exciting event, will conclude with Geoff putting together a film all about the story of Boundary Way.
Twigs Way’s free talk is definitely not one to miss and will be a great opportunity to learn more about allotment & garden history, as well as the importance of our wonderful site in the local area. Twigs Way’s career in historic landscapes spans many fields and as well as researching, giving talks about and advising on landscapes and garden history, she is also a successful author, publishing books on a range of related topics. You can find her books here. talk, alongside the project, is supported with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council England.
